Anti-Aging And Facial Rejuvenation With Dermal Fillers

We age with time but who wants to look older? Probably none of us. However, getting older and showing signs of aging are inevitable parts of life. Aging causes your skin to lose facial volume and develop wrinkles. You cannot stop yourself from aging, but there is something you can do to fix your skin, in the form or facial filler injection.

Facial Volume Loss And How It Ages The Face?

As if the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles develop over time. With age, your skin is also prone to volume loss. At a young age, your cheeks have an even distribution of the fatty tissues underneath your skin, giving them a round and supple look while keeping the skin looking tight and firm. The natural loss of fatty tissue’s volume with age, leads to a sunken appearance and skin starts to sag downwards.

Additionally, every passing year reduces the production of hyaluronic acid in your body. Hyaluronic acid exists as a gel-like substance that works to retain moisture, keeping your skin hydrated and plump naturally. It also serves to lubricate your joints. When it is lost, the volume of your skin is also predominantly reduced while also affecting the joints with age.

Besides, with age, there is a reduction in the production of collagen and elastin, which also act as the internal support structure for healthy skin. With their depletion, gravity pulls your skin downwards, and your cheeks appear sunken, skin sags around the jawline, and your nasolabial folds (around your nose and mouth) become more noticeable.

What Are Fillers?

Dermal fillers, also called face fillers, are gel injections made out of hyaluronic acid or other types of components. These fill in the wrinkles, serving to add volume to the soft tissues. Dermal fillers can be injected in different parts on your face, depending upon the sunken-ness and is generally used to improve wrinkles and facial contours.

How Does Fillers Help To Counter Volume Loss?

Fillers essentially, reinstate the volume lost from your face to add plumpness. This smoothens the deep-set lines and reduces wrinkles. As your clinician injects the fillers into the targeted areas of your face, the hyaluronic acid lifts your skin instantly, giving it a younger look.

The age-related volume loss does not need surgery, as the injectable fillers plump up your skin sufficiently, restoring volume, and smoothening lines and wrinkles.

Collagen fillers gradually substitutes for the lost collagen, restoring facial volume and diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. In addition, it can also stimulate collagen production in your skin layers, restoring the natural support structure to give you longer-lasting results.

Types Of Fillers

There are several different kinds of fillers. These are briefly discussed below.

1. Hyaluronic Acid (Ha)

As already mentioned above, hyaluronic acid is a main constituent of connective tissue matrix within your skin, epithelial, connective, and neural tissues. Its presence is universal in species, thus this type of filler doesn’t necessitate skin patch testing before injection, and is the most commonly used type of filler. HA is a glycosaminoglycan that can potentially bind thousand times more water than its volume, making it ideal for volumizing the skin. Its hydrophilic nature allows HA to attract and uphold water in the extracellular space. This is why tissue hydration is lost when hyaluronic acid levels are depleted. In addition, with the degradation of HA molecules, the remaining molecules can retain more water thus keeping the overall volume stable, keeping the effect constant.

2. Poly-L-Lactic Acid

Poly-L-lactic acid injectables include Sculptra Aesthetic that was recognized by the FDA in 2004 for the rectification of HIV-related lipoatrophy of the face. As for cosmetic tissue augmentation it was approved in 2009. Sculptra stimulates collagen synthesis that can add volume at the injection site. This is a non-animal, synthetic product, and it requires testing for allergy.

Sculptra is utilized as a diffuse volume enhancer instead of a wrinkle filler. This is why it is used in concurrence with other immediate fillers for a longer-lasting structural design to the face. Sculptra is a lyophilized powder that has to be mixed with sterile water. Some injections also have lidocaine to limit the pain of injection. The injector also massages manually post-treatment so that the filler is distributed evenly.

3. Calcium Hydroxyapatite

Fillers made of calcium hydroxyapatite spheres, including Radiesse, that was previously called Radiance or Radiance FN. It is a soft tissue filler in which calcium hydroxyapatite spheres are incorporated in an aqueous gel with sodium hydroxycellulose and glycerin. This had been approved by the FDA in 2006 for nasolabial folds filling and facial lipoatrophy.

The main mineral component of the bone is hydroxyapatite, and is exceptionally biocompatible, and needs no allergy testing. After injection, the hydroxyapatite serves as a framework for collagen ingrowth. Radiesse has a high viscosity, and can be palpated after injection for about two to three months and collagen stimulation effects may last longer.

Radiesse is predominantly used for treating deep folds, creases, and furrows for the augmentation of cheeks, emphasizing cheekbones, for filling sunken preauricular and temporal areas, and for the enhancement of the jawline. However, Radiesse is not used in the lip because of the risk of nodule formation submucosally.

How Long Does Filler Last?

The duration of the filler results depends on the individual body’s response to it and the quality of hyaluronic acid used. However, they generally last from 6 to 18 months.

Side Effects Of Dermal Fillers

The side effects of a procedure can quite easily be confused as reactions. However, there is a difference between the two. Like any other procedure dermal fillers may also have some side effects but there is a minimal risk of reactions. Temporary side effects are completely normal post facial injections and may include redness, swelling, and tenderness.

Experts opine that some discomfort and bruising can commonly occur after the procedure. If a reaction would occur, it would occur right after the injection and would accompany symptoms of swelling, redness, pain, bruising, itching, and tenderness at the site of injection. Such reactions are typically mild to moderately severe and generally disappear soon, within a few days after the injection.

How Much Does It Cost?

aesthetic treatment cost

The total price of dermal fillers can vary depending upon several factors including the expertise of the clinician, the locality of the cosmetic center, and the type and amount of filler used. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has estimated its price per syringe ranges between $700 and $1200.

Where Should You Go To Get Dermal Fillers?

The final outcomes of facial filler injection depends upon the clinician you choose to work on you. Never consider going to a salon or spa for your procedure as you need a board-certified plastic surgeon to carry out the procedure for best results and minimal risk of reaction.

The face comprises sensitive structures, including vessels, nerves, and eyes and above all is the epitome of your beauty. Being in the right hands is what’s essential to reap the most out of your procedure.
